News coming out of Tallahassee that a state trooper in Florida is being fired because he cut a break to a Florida Lawmaker. The trooper got the state legislator for going 87 in a 70 zone.
You can read the full story here.
The trooper did not issue a $250 speeding ticket. He gave a warning for the speed but did issue a $10 ticket for “no proof of insurance”. This state legislator is now complaining that he did have proof of insurance on him so this citation was issued unfairly.
Ummm… hello the this trooper just saved you $240!
What is scary is I do this all the time. But I don’t do this for State Lawmakers, I do this for everyday people who have a clean driving record. If you can’t guess by my page I tend to be laid back. So if I can cut someone a break I will. I give seatbelt tickets (a $10 fine) to people all the time. Even if they have the seatbelt on, but that $10 ticket is in lieu of the $200+ speeding ticket.
I might be laid back, but I a also a staunch supporter of the officers that I supervise. If someone came to me to complain that one of my officers issued a very cheap ticket, cutting them the break on the expensive ticket. I would have no choice. I would order my officer to void that cheap ticket and then issue the proper expensive ticket.
How does that quote go… “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”, meaning “Don’t be ungrateful when you receive a gift”.
