Indianapolis, Indiana firefighters had a hard time locating a hydrant at a house fire due to a decorative fence blocking it. In the dark of night and with the visual obstruction fire crews had to seek out a water supply from a block away.
Ironically she said no one had ever told her blocking a hydrant was illegal. Seriously?!? Think about that one for a second… we have laws about parking cars in front of a hydrant. In the north we have regulations about shoveling snow off the hydrant. How can someone truly feel they were unaware it was unacceptable to block the hydrant with a fence that makes it both hard to see and impossible to access connections?
At least no one was hurt.
