We have each others backs

Every agency has one, some have two or more. That jerk that will bring you and others around you down for little to no reason. For some they are a bully. For others they see knocking you down as a stepping stone for their advancement. No matter the reason remember your brother and sisters have your back

Screen shot of the email

An email that RescueHumor got

I learned this lesson today when I posted an email I got last night to Facebook. The short version of the email was that the person sending it claims to be a 20 year police officer. He also claims that he knows people who work in cyber crime and has Facebook contacts so he will get my Facebook page that supports RescueHumor shut down. In making this claim he questions if I have ever been in uniform and then make a derogatory comment about if I have ever been in uniform I must be some lame volunteer. He goes on to call me a wannabe and other not so nice things. After dwelling on it all night I posted a screen shot to Facebook and a short rant. In that rant I pointed out how the majority of Fire and EMS in this nation are Volunteers and how karma is a bitch so he someday will likely call 911 and get his butt saved by volunteers.

So jump to this afternoon. As of me typing this I my post has gotten over 200 “likes” on my Facebook page. Other popular public safety pages (911: You can’t make this up, Law Enforcement WTF, Tales from the Beat, etc..) they all have many hundreds of likes also. My page has over 230 comments currently and the other pages also have hundreds of comments. But here is the thing… so far every comment I have seen has been a positive one.

This got me thinking about some of the jerks I have worked with and some that I still do work with. It also got me thinking about all the great people I have worked with and all the super great people I do work with. When every a jackwad jerk does the bully thing we always set up and support our brother or sister who is being knocked down. Public safety is a family and family tends to always look out for each other. I know we don’t always do as good of a job as we should but for the most part we do. When push comes to shove though we truly do stand up for each other.

People I do not know. People I will never know have all said they got my back. I can’t  say thank you enough for this. It is almost overwhelming. It is also reassuring. Because it goes to show that there are more of us who are cool and willing to have each others back. So to all my brothers and sisters out there in Police/Fire/EMS I say

THANKS! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

and remember if you ever need help ask for it your brothers and sisters DO have your back!

Oh and to Sgt Jackhole for your stupid email… I need to say thanks also… you have given me renewed intrest in making people laugh and doing good at being a real positive influence on this world we live in.
