Happy New Year 2012!

The mission here at Rescue Humor is to showcase the funny, crazy, wild, stupid and down right silly things we in the emergency services see and sometimes do. But we can be serious from time to time also.

According to the people over at Law Officer Magazine, 1965 was the last time we had less than 100 police officers killed in the line of duty in a calendar year. So in addition to wishing everyone a Happy new Year I also want to issue a challenge to all the Public Safety workers who visit this web page...

So my challenge to all the public safety workers out there is to make it home at the end of EVERY ONE of your shifts. Venerable police trainer Dave Smith ( the guy who created J.D. Buck Savage) has a motto of "Not Today". This motto means that someone had a close call but lived to tell about it. Please do everything you can to make sure you do not have any close calls, and if you happen to find your self in a close call situation, make sure you walk away from it saying "Not Today".

Lets do our best to keep all the Line of Duty Deaths for all the emergency services (Police, Fire, EMS) as low as possible. The Below 100 program is focused on Police but the tennets of this program can help us all. More information on Below 100 can be found at their page http://below100.com .

Have a happy and safe 2012!
